Upcoming concerts

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

It has been a while for me to go to a concert. Fortunately I have two juicy ones on their way:

Especially looking forward to Anneke’s concert. I seriously hope Epica is making up from their last concert in Hedon in Zwolle which was for me way to loud. (in volume not in music style ;-) ) But that can be fixed with ear plugs.

A privilege

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

I was browsing a while back on some sites to see if there are any good rock concerts planned in the near future. And to my delighted surprise I found that the musician/composer Philip Glass was giving a concert in my home town! As a part of the Philip Glass festival.

See the vague cell phone photo below:Glass in concert

As you can see it was only him, the piano and us. After every piece (about 20 minutes each of Glass’s awesome repetitive patterns) he mumbled something in the microphone which was unfortunately not very understandable for us.

But overall, it was pure awesomeness, he received about 4 standing ovations. 70 years old but he still knows how to handle the piano.

This is a concert I will not forget easily. What a privilege to have seen this master perform live.

Phone cable found! and The Gathering stuff

Saturday, June 16th, 2007

As mentioned in this post I have a nice habit of losing things. One of the items was the USB cable of my mobile phone. Better not mention that it was just in the drawer were it supposed to be.. Now that I can finally show you some pictures of The Gathering. So very glad I saw their show twice this year. Anneke has announced she will quit The Gathering… I am a sad panda. But I am quit curious what she will do with her new project.

Their show in Groningen:
Gathering 1

Their show in Zwolle:
Gathering 2
And of course a bonus pic f the cute bassguitar player Marjolijn:
Gathering 3

So Cal how was The Gathering part 2

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

As can be read in this post my latest The Gathering was not a success. Well last weekend we had a second chance. Wow awesome concert. Third time I heard them and they are getting better and better. I bit more guitar even than last concert. I’ll post a picture if it if I found the cable of my cellphone :-)

They even played “Strange Machines” again! \o/

So Cal how was The Gathering?

Saturday, May 13th, 2006

So like I mentioned in my old blog. The Gathering concert was yesterday. Me and my brother were looking forward to it, stepped in the car and parked it in the neighbourhood of the concert hall. Halfway walking from car to hall I noticed a Simplon poster (Yes the one where we had the Epica concert a month back). I saw Green Lizard having a concert! …. on the May 12th… I had a flashback right away to May 2000 where they had an awesome concert on Pinkpop. To me they were a real eye-opener. Check out this video of one of my favourite songs on their web site.
When we were approaching the hall it was too quiet, no people outside, when we walked in our fears were confirmed: The Gathering was canceled. Anneke the lead singer is having a bacterial infection and is not able to perform. So I asked for the phone number of Simplon right away to ask if there were still tickets available for the Green Lizard concert, and yes there were!

When Green Lizard performs on stage they give everything they have got. Even when it is a small audience.. and a small audience it was. It is very difficult to guess but I think there were only about 100 people in the audience. But an awesome concert it was. Lots of new stuff I had not heard, so time for me to buy new CDs.

Two piccies:

Now we have to wait until September 29 for the The Gathering concert.

Epica concert review

Sunday, April 9th, 2006

I am a big fan of Epica. Epica is a dutch symphonic metal band, with lots of influences from the film music industry, which is my other musical preference. I heard them for the first time on a dutch festival in 2004. I was quite surprised by this to me unknown metal band. Now I have all their CD’s and I got their awesome 2 meter sessies DVD.

To my surprise I found out they were giving a concert in my home town. So of course I went there. Good thing I just bought myself a new mobile phone:

I know Epica a bit and I know what they can do musically. It was an awesome concert, but I had the impression they could have done more. The guitars were to me waay too loud, ignoring the Simone’s awesome voice (darn she is hot). I know the headbangers in front did not mind that. But my sensitive ears would prefer to hear more music instead of guitars. Epica is not a normal metal band. They are a symphonic one, so let me hear more symphonic stuff during concert.

While thanking the audience and going back stage King Arthur’s “All of them!” was playing. Awesomeness.
